Simple Plant Care & Quiet Reflections
This week’s plant of the week is the UFO Plant, also known as Pilea peperomioides.
And this plant is just weird in the best possible way 😅🌿
The leaves are perfectly round and look like tiny UFOs floating on long stems. Mine happens to be the variegated version, which makes it even more unique. The new leaves emerge pink and are splashed with little specks that look almost like stars.
It is just so striking and beautiful.

One of my favorite things about this plant is its growth pattern.
The leaves just shoot out wherever they feel like going. It doesn’t try to grow perfectly or neatly, and somehow that’s exactly what makes it so interesting to look at.
I think that’s one of the reasons quirky plants make me happier than “normal” plants.
They are more fun to look at.
More exciting to grow.
Never boring.
They always surprise you.
Every new leaf feels like a little gift because you never know exactly how it’s going to turn out.
If you’ve followed me for a while, you probably already know that I have a serious obsession with weird plants. The stranger the plant looks, the more I love it 😅🌿
And I truly think part of that is because I relate to them.
When I was younger, being different felt sad and lonely. I just wanted to be liked and could never figure out what was wrong with me. I spent a lot of my childhood feeling like I didn’t quite fit in with everyone else.
But the older I get, the more I realize that maybe there was never anything wrong with me at all.
Being different built character in me. If I had always been accepted by everyone around me, I probably wouldn’t be the person I am today. The difficult seasons shaped me into someone more thoughtful, more understanding, and more compassionate toward other people who feel out of place too.
And honestly?
If I were a plant, I’d definitely be a quirky one 🌿
I would want to be different in the plant universe just like I am in the human one 😅
I’ve found that the things that make plants interesting are usually the things that make them different. The unusual leaves. The odd growth patterns. The little quirks that make them stand out from everything else around them.
Without those qualities, they’d just be ordinary.
And where’s the fun in that?
No one looks at a UFO Plant and wishes it looked like every other plant.
Its uniqueness is the whole point.
Maybe ours is too.
I hope the fellow weirdos reading this know there are a lot of us out here wandering around together 🌿✨
