Simple Plant Care & Quiet Reflections
This week's plant is one that quietly reminds me of a lesson I seem to keep learning over and over again.
The Syngonium.
I bring up this plant because it sits in low light, doesn't need a grow light, and often gets nothing more than the occasional glow from a nearby LED bulb. Yet somehow, it just keeps growing. New leaves unfurl one after another as if it never got the memo that conditions aren't perfect.
When they're young, Syngoniums have leaves shaped like little arrowheads… which is how they earned the nickname "arrowhead plant." As they mature, many varieties develop beautifully lobed leaves that look completely different from the plant they started as. They come in countless colors, shapes, and patterns, and they're one of my favorite plants to collect. At last count, I probably have more than twenty different varieties.

What I love most, though, is how uncomplicated they are.
They don't seem to panic when the light isn't ideal. They don't stop growing until conditions improve. They simply take what they're given and keep moving forward.
Lately, I've found myself wanting to be more like that.
I've been yearning for change.
For a long time, I've carried this dream of being my own boss someday. That desire has felt even stronger recently since my boys moved in with me. I am incredibly grateful for my job, but there are days when I work so much that by the time I clock out, it feels like there's not enough of me left to go around.
I want more time with my children.
More mornings that aren't rushed.
More freedom to build something that belongs to me.

The truth is, I don't know exactly when that dream will become reality. Sometimes the path ahead feels dim, and it's hard to see how all the pieces fit together.
But maybe that's why this plant keeps catching my attention.
The Syngonium doesn't wait for perfect conditions before it grows. It doesn't demand brighter light before it's willing to put out a new leaf. It simply trusts that what it has is enough for today and keeps growing anyway.
So that's what I'm trying to do.
I will keep showing up.
I will keep creating in the low-light moments… the early mornings before anyone else is awake, the late nights after everyone else is asleep, and the stolen pockets of time in between.
I will keep planting seeds even when I can't see them growing yet.
Because if there is one thing my Syngonium has taught me, it's this:
Sometimes growth is happening quietly beneath the surface. Sometimes the roots are growing before the leaves appear. Sometimes the work is taking place where no one else can see it.
And with God, I've learned that is often exactly where the miracle is growing.
So if you're in a low-light season right now, don't give up.
Keep growing anyway.
If this week's plant inspired you, Syngoniums are one of the easiest and most rewarding houseplants to grow. They tolerate lower light, come in countless beautiful varieties, and seem to grow when you least expect it.
I found a beginner-friendly 4-pack that's a great way to start a collection or add a few new varieties to your plant shelf.
